ARTIST STATEMENT

MACY PAGE

A box that transforms into a brooch or a brooch that transforms into a box?

This wearable jewellery object utilizes steel staples to affix both the stones to the brass and the brooch to the body. Through this work I am exploring themes of utility and purpose through their transformation into unconventional setting techniques and inverting forms. With the rising cost of silver, brass and gilding metal have been my main metals of choice. The way brass weathers and oxidises, inspires me to make works that can be interpreted as unearthed ancient artefacts.

Whether this is intentional artistic expression or simply a material constraint, it is to me, the price of silver.

PROFILE

Macy Page’s motivation for creating jewellery stemmed from curiosity and as a creative outlet. She sees jewellery as a powerful form of self-expression where each piece tells a story through its aesthetics and craftsmanship. She is fascinated by solving the puzzle of making, navigating technical challenges, and organising processes. Each piece is visually captivating and invites curiosity about its creation. She aims to balance beauty and complexity, reflecting thought as much as the final form. Through her work, she wants to create meaningful connections between the wearer, the piece, and the craft, encouraging reflection on the artistry and effort involved.
