ARTIST STATEMENT
NATASHA POULOS
The rising cost of precious metals emphasises for me the importance of good technique and processes, highlighting the need to be proficient and minimise precious metal loss. At the start of my creative journey at TAFE I was overwhelmed and intimidated by the difficulty of sawpiercing exercises that I begun to question my choice to get into the industry.
Conquering the Sawframe celebrates those challenging aspects of learning. Its’s a reminder of constant growth and improvement, standing as a testament to the fact that something that may have made you quit can become something familiar and comforting.
PROFILE
Natasha Poulos is a Greek-Indonesian-Australian emerging multidisciplinary artist working across printmaking, textiles, jewellery, and small-scale sculpture. Her practice draws on the environment, human anatomy, and molecular structures, and occasionally is interwoven with reflections on political unrest. Through storytelling, she explores themes of identity and cultural heritage, using materiality to enhance meaning. Fabrics allow for soft, fluid forms, while metalwork introduces structure and surface. Techniques such as saw piercing, repoussé, and painted finishes enable her to navigate positive and negative space, transforming flat materials into dimensional forms that carry both physical and conceptual depth.
