ARTIST STATEMENT
HAYDEN PRESSLEY
Exploring titanium in a high art setting, this titanium, brass, silver and aluminium choker necklace pushes the ballot for material value in a jewellery context. In using non-precious metals on scale — out weighing silver — this piece responds to the rising price of silver by subverting it’s material value.
PROFILE
Hayden Pressley is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, and jewellery design. He began as a portrait painter and evolved into new materialist works. His works currently broadly question the technologies around material value, the materiality of the immaterial, and the materiality of time and space. He's mainly influenced by materials in and of themselves, their relations, and capabilities they allow.
More recently, this has transmitted into surreal and brutalist sculptures, paintings and jewellery works in the materials concrete, metal, and oil paint. Hayden has exhibited in both Queensland and Northern Territory galleries and is a nationally awarded artist.
